Darter Silhouette
Full scientific name:
Anhinga novaehollandiae
Location:
Yerrabi pond Canberra, Australia
Description:
For a few months, my plan was to create a Silhouette of the Australasian Darter with its wings spread. I returned to the same location every second to get the Darter used to my presence.
This photo was taken in the evening when the light was ideal for a Silhouette, which set itself behind the subject in the water. The hard part was keeping myself low to avoid startling the Darter. I went through many different exposures and F-stops to reduce the glare from the setting sunlight.
This was made difficult without a tripod or monopod to steady the shot; I had to keep very still to capture a sharp image of the light highlighting the edges of the subject and hide the suns reflection itself in the water behind.
Post editing was made to reduce any over exposure issues and remove some harsh light specks from dirt in the water.
